About

Audionaut is a lightweight desktop application for audio editing and recording, developed and maintained by Klaus Voltmer.

Philosophy

Audionaut is built around a few simple ideas:

  • Focused. Audionaut concentrates on doing multitrack editing, arranging and recording well — without the weight and complexity of a full DAW. You get precise cutting, playlists and clean exports, not a wall of plugins and menus.
  • Transparent. Your projects are saved in an open, human-readable JSON format. You can inspect a project file in any text editor, and your work is never locked into a proprietary format.
  • Native. Audionaut is written in modern C++ on top of the JUCE framework. It runs natively on Windows, macOS and Linux — fast startup, low resource use, and the same workflow on every platform.
  • Open. Since August 2026, Audionaut is open source under the GPLv3 license. The complete source code is available on GitHub — you can audit it, build it yourself, and help shape where it goes.

Support Audionaut

Audionaut is free, open-source software, developed independently and without corporate backing. If it's useful to you, consider sponsoring the project on GitHub — sponsorship directly funds development time, signed releases on all three platforms, and keeps the project sustainable. The source code lives at github.com/kvoltmer/Audionaut.
